GREEN PEBBLES

A Passion for luxury, fashion & watches

From Japan: AMATERASU brings Shibori, the ancient tradition of silk scarf making, back to life!

Like bags and shoes there can never be too many silk scarves in a Green Pebbles Girl's wardrobe!  Especially when the scarves come all the way from the land of Silk: Japan.

Amaterasu's stunning scarves are made according to ancient japanese principles, techniques and aesthetiques and are the creation of Creative Director Makiko Niimura who previously worked in the entertainment industry as a movie producer.

The scarves are the result of the intense study of Japanese craftsmanship combined with the Japanese sense of beauty translated for a more universal appeal.

The Amaterasu Silk scarves are handmade and dyed in Kyoto, Japan by artisans using the Shibori technique passed down from one generation to the next!

The Shibori technique allows the wearer to experience two different textures at the same time as the lighter colours of these voluminous chiffon-like scarves will feel softer and look shinier than the darker portions.

The scarves can be worn individually or they can be wrapped together to form a wonderful chromatic experience.

You can purchase the Amaterasu' scarves directly from ASOS Marketplace

Be Soft on your Sofa with Sofa Soft! Innovative Designer Furniture from Italy.

Have you ever noticed that as soon as you buy a new house, you start buying items that you've always wanted.  Well one of the Green Pebbles Girls has r ecently moved into her new house and one of the things she's always wanted is a sofa in the garden, but not just any sofa!  Oh no, she didn't want those hard plastic sofa shaped things, she wanted something soft colourful and incredibly eye-catching.  To add to that she also wanted something that could be transferred into the 'jardin d'hiver' during the winter months ( it does get bitterly cold in Switzerland in Winter) and still look stunning!

So we set ourselves a challenge to see if we could find the perfect solution to match her dream!

You should know of course that setting a challenge to a Green Pebbles Girl is like offering a chocolate bar to a child..... they just can't wait to get started on it!  So off we went scouring high and low for the dream garden sofa!

And wouldn't you know it, meet the challenge we did.  All the way in the beautiful city of Bologna Italy.  Sofa Soft is an ingenious idea - it takes the traditional bean bag and modular sofas and transforms them in an innovative, fun, eye catching and extremely functional alternative to traditional seating using colourful eco leather and exciting designs.  If you already own a garden set but want to spice it up then you can add a few pieces of the Sofa Soft collection and dramatically change the look of your garden furniture!

You can choose from a whole range of shapes, colours, sizes and find the solution which best suits your requirements.  The great thing about Sofa Soft is that it can be washed! So even if the kids climb all over them you can just smile and get on with things instead of running around like a headless chicken!

Now, remember that one of the requirements was that these sofa's could be used both inside and out..... well have a look at these:

If this is not eye catching and innovative enough for you then maybe these latest additions to the Sofa Soft collection will meet your expectations!  Transparent and LED lit!!

PERFECTLY PATENT!

Coach Madison Patent Lindsey Satchel

Image via Coach.com

With Coach and Jimmy Choo paving the way for patent with their rainbow coloured wedges and raspberry patent bags, can we expect to see more designers’ follow suit?  We certainly hope so!

We have fallen in love with the berry coloured bags by Coach and the equally bright wedges by Jimmy Choo.

Jimmy Choo Patent Biel

The understated Coach designs allows the due attention to be paid to the beautiful berry coloured patent, and the same applies for Jimmy Choo’s peep toe patent  wedges; also available with to buy with a stunning mirrored wedge heel.

Kitch Patent Lace Up Shoes

Image via Topshop

We are noticing more patent hitting the high street too, with Topshop selling some ‘buttercup yellow patent brogues’ also available in pastel pink and baby blue. Brogues seem set to stay with the ‘Granny chic’ trend firmly set in place for the coming year and with many other styles looking back at past trends for future inspiration.

Priced at just £60, these brogues are a ‘must’ that will see you through the transition to the Spring/Summer months.

Team with a floral print dress and walk with a ‘Spring’ in your step!

When East meets West...... the magic of Liliyang!

Did we mention that there can never be enough bags, shoes and scarves in a Green Pebbles Girl's wardrobe?  Yes, we thought so.....

Our latest must have is a shining brand new brand from the UK Liliyang, we caught up with them in London just before their launch due on the 1st of February 2012.

Liliyang is the result of the chance meeting between British Goldsmiths Graduate Lucy Dyer and Chinese Lily Yang Li and the coming together of their vastly different heritages.

The collection is a  true blend of the sartorial elegance of British design and the opulence of the orient .  The  beautiful texture of the crocodile embossed calf leather  ranging from Spring pastel colours to the brighter emerald green and burgandy combined with the gold hardware produces a  delightful chromatic effect.

Liliyang bags are available online from the Liliyang online store as of tomorrow 1st of February.
SIANNA TOTE IN LAVENDER CROC EFFECT £768.00

SIANNA TOTE IN EMERALD TWO TONE EFFECT £886.00

THE "GREEN PEBBLES GIRLS" IN THE SNOW.....

We woke up this morning to find Geneva covered in snow!  Oh, how lovely you might think..... which is exactly what crossed our minds for ALL OF 2 SECONDS  before panic set in...... what on earth do we wear??!!  Sinking into snow up to your ankles with your Manolo's is not a great idea - and no even the tallest pair of Louboutin's will not get you by!

Get your wellies on you say?  Yes, of course that could be an option .....   for a grand total of 5 minutes before having to succumb to surgery on our toes suffering frost bite!

The only option was to scour right at the back of our wardrobe (you know what we're talking about, that dark dingy dusty space where items we've promised ourselves never to wear again lie waiting to be shredded into oblivion by moths) and pull out those dreaded snow boots that make you look (and feel) like the Abominable Snowman with every step you take.

The Green Pebbles Girls were caught completely unprepared this year, so to ensure you are not wandering around the streets like a City version of the Yeti here we have some slightly more stylish alternatives to the traditional snow boot!

THE LUXURY OF ANYA SUSHKO....an interview.

Luxury bag designer Anya Sushko studied interior design at the University in Riga, Latvia and supported herself with modeling for the likes of Tiffany’s, La Perla and Gianfranco Ferre. When she came to London, she was accepted to study at the Central Saint Martins’s College. Upon graduation, she cut her teeth at Alexander McQueen’s studio in London, working on the haute couture line, and later turned her hand to designing and producing high quality bags in her own name.

We had the chance to interview Anya at her atelier in London.

Karolina by Anya Sushko  £350

When asked to define her brand Anya passionately describes it as one of the last truly luxury brands "in the sense that each one of our handbags is designed and handmade in London. We engage with our customers directly, no matter how small their orders might be, and cater for the individual customer too."

Anya designs for women who like to stand out, be different and daring in their fashion choices. They value quality and what they choose to wear helps them achieve that.  In the words of the designer "The Anya Sushko woman is her own decision-maker and trusts her instincts."

Her answer when it comes to defining herself is straightforward and to the point: "I am an individualist, who is lead by courage and belief that a good product will withstand the test of time."

Anya has been surrounded by luxury by virtue of her modelling career and as a designer so asking what luxury is to her produces a surprising answer: "For me luxury is having the opportunity to do what you love. For me, it is designing and making handbags. I not only what to design and produce but do so using the finest materials, upholding the highest standards in craftsmanship and traditions in working with leather." but naturally she adds it is also "Wearing beautiful clothes, shoes and bags and seeing beautiful and exciting places around the world and not worrying about tomorrow."

Inspired by the human body, gothic architechture and the serene Baltic scenery amongst which she spent her childhood Anya Susho's bag' main characteristics are that of a well accentuated structure and silhouette.  Her latest collection was inspired by "old values interpreted through the lense of a modern urban lifestyle."

Grande Sunburst by Anya Sushko  £1,755

A successful model in her own right and having the opportunity to work with one of Britain's greatest designers one has to wonder why she would burden herself with the awesome task of setting up her own brand.  Anya credits her own drive and the support of her university mentor " I turned my hand to designing and producing high quality bags in my own name as soon as I graduated. When the ANYA SUSHKO brand caught the eye of fashion connoisseurs and received an exhibition invite at Paris Fashion Week, it was time for me to focus solely on my own signature line."  this coupled with her passion about the role of a designer which provides her with the opportunity " to fulfill my potential.".  She loves "the creation process: from conceiving an idea in my head, to sketching it, carefully selecting the materials, pattern cutting, making.  Creating from scratch a product that someone will identify with for me equals fulfillment."

Hiss by Anya Sushko  £525

We do try to challenge Anya's passion by asking her to reflect on the most difficult part of setting up her own brand:

"I think most known obstacle in any upcoming brand’s life is financial side. I don’t have a sponsor/ investor, or funding behind me, so  I have to think about how to support the business. All products are produced in London in our studio therefore our bags are quite expensive. Consequently, it makes it harder to find suitable clients who’d trust unknown brand and risk to buy the product at a higher price point. Competing in a saturated and very crowded market place is a challenge. On the PR front, we do everything in house and we are often thrown back by competitors who can afford the advertising and huge media campaigns we cannot.  Factories do not want to produce small quantities so as a small brand we are pushed either pay more or order large quantities or not work with some factories at all."

A daunting prospect for most, yet Anya has never regretted it, although readily admitting that if she were to do it all over again she'd probably spend more time working for a bigger brand before setting up her own.

Simona by Anya Sushko  £563

Despite the harsh times for many bespoke brands, Anya Sushko seems to have weathered the storm gracefully, Anya puts this down to  having had the courage to remain focused on the brand's identity. "We don’t try to be for everyone, but for someone, passionately. Having said that, we are having our ups and downs, but every time we learn from the experience and try doing things better next time."

One might also suggest that in addition to the focus on the brand's identity what has helped Anya Sushko is its  contemporary interpretation of timeless designs as well as of traditional values, such as craftsmanship. As Anya adds "Our designs are daring and individual. We also hand-pick the materials and produce every piece in Islington, North London."

There is no 'typical' Anya Sushko client which is quite refreshing, there is however a common denominator, as Anya puts it, in the fact that they are not lead by short-lived trends and they place an emphasis on quality, longevity and originality.

Clients can expect to find bags finished to the highest levels of craftsmanship, produced entirely in Anya's atelier in North London.  Each bag can take anything from between two days to two weeks from idea conception to final sketch depending on the complexity of the design.  To add to the luxury experience Anya Sushko offers a bespoke service to private clients and and boutiques and stores alike.

Anya Sushko bags are stocked in selected boutiques and independent stores, such as the Dorchester boutique at the Dorchester London, but can be purchased on line www.anyasushko.com or if you are looking for something in particular you can always as Anya put it 'give us a call to discuss your requirements'.

A designer with the end client in mind - a rather rare breed indeed!

CRUELLA EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

Gucci 'Noah' High Heel

When we saw these Gucci shoes and bag, all we could think was Cruella de Vil !  We love them!

The older Green Pebbles Girls were always in two minds about Cruella de Vil..... she was afterall a terrible villain going after all 101 dalmations....but she had style

Admittedly a tad extravagant to say the least...but style nonetheless!

THIS SUMMER THE "GREEN PEBBLES GIRLS" WILL BE WEARING PUCCI!

Images via NY Mag

It's still cold here in Geneva, but we Green Pebble Girls like to start thinking ahead about our summer wardrobe for our Mediterranean holiday (or the Seychelles in the case of one particular very lucky Green Pebbles Girl!).  We've fallen in love with these pieces from Emilio Pucci's new Pre Spring Resort Collection inspired by the early 1960's Marianne Faithful look, young, sophisticated and fresh.

Images via NY Mag

There were so many beautiful items to choose from but in the end we had to come to terms with the fact that there is only so much one can pack into a suitcase!  So these are our favorites:  from a stunning sorbet yellow broderie Anglaise shift dress to a matching sorbet yellow evening gown , all the way to sequinned sherbert liquid pailette Pucci patterns on a sleeveless shift and long skirt.

Images via NY Mag

And of course the traditional white and blue Pucci patterned blouse and shorts and a strapless green and white Pucci patterned costume.  Even if we have to sit on the suitcase to get them in, they're coming with us!

HERMÈS WATCH OUT MOYNAT IS ABOUT!

Image via Interview Magazine

If you heard Rue Saint Honoré you could be forgiven for thinking Hermès Birkin, Kelly (Hermès is at 24 Rue Faubourg St. Honoré)...... well think again, another player has quietly carved itself a prime position in Paris' historic street.

Moynat, the 19th-century trunk maker, has been brought back to life by LVMH's Bernard Arnault who bought the company himself, independently from LVMH, and late last year placed former Hermès, Lacroix and Yamamoto designer Ramesh Nair at the forefront of Moynat to create a line of bags.

Made-to-order trunks, Ramesh Nair's new Moynat bag collection - with prices ranging from under $1,000 to more than $10,000 - as well as small leather goods and accessories, and silk scarves are all now available at the Rue Saint-Honoré store.

Could Mr. Arnault, who failed to secure control over Hermès last year, be seeking to 'replace' the iconic trunk and bag maker as THE bag brand par excellence?

Moynat's heritage, Nair's stunning designs and of course the store right on Hermès' doorstep (it's a 10 minute walk away) would suggest to us that he is most certainly going out there all guns blazing!

The Green Pebbles Girls want a Pauline each!

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER TRIBUTE TO AMY WINEHOUSE - SS2012 Haute Couture Collection

Gaultier sent his models down the runway sporting Amy Winehouse's iconic beehive hairstyle and heavy eyeliner during Paris Fashion Week, in what was supposed to be a tribute to the late star.

Unfortunately the star's father was left less than impressed and posted on his Twitter page: "We don't support the Jean Paul Galtier (sic) collection. It's in bad taste."

Simply KARL!

Image via Net A Porter

Karl Lagerfeld’s much anticipated lower-priced KARL Collection has finally been revealed, and we can honestly say it was worth the wait!

Both feminine and androgynous styles can be recognised in the stunning sequin pencil skirts and more structured boxy blazers.

Amongst our favourites is the poplin cameo collar and fingerless leather gloves, both are heavily inspired by Lagerfeld’s personal trademark style.  The cameo completes the finish of the collar flaunting Karl Lagerfeld’s very own seal of approval.

Prices start at £20 for an illustrated portrait shopper bag and range up to £980 for the ‘Jacey’ snakeskin effect leather jacket.

Hurry, Quick!  We wouldn’t want you to miss out!

We won't even waste time describing the Versace Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012 collection to you because quite frankly ' a picture tells a thousand words'.  Suffice it to say that all we did after having watched the show held in Paris was look at each other mouthing the word 'WOW' over and over again.  If any collection has WOW factor this is it!
